Working at The Coop
The Coop is a co-working space of connected open offices with assigned personal desk space for each writer. Desks, chairs, lamps, Wi-Fi, and utilities are provided. For a change of pace while working, or to relax and read, there are also shared common spaces with different types of seating, both indoors and in an outside courtyard. We’re located in a 1905 arts and crafts era cottage, accessible through a secretive passageway from Castro Street, not visible to the public and away from city noise. It’s a quiet, contemplative space, so out of respect for the writing process, conversations are kept to a minimum inside the workspace. Well-behaved pets are welcome. Cell phone chats are not. Just beyond the doors of our compound is San Francisco’s vibrant Castro neighborhood, known worldwide as a beacon of hope, acceptance and diversity. We are steps away from the historic location of Harvey Milk’s camera shop, one of the birthplaces of the modern LGBT rights movement. As one of the most popular destinations in San Francisco, there are dozens of cafes, restaurants, shops, and watering holes – perfect places to have conversations without disturbing the workspace. And each month the writers of The Coop have scheduled gatherings at these local venues to catch up and connect. work [wurk]
